Craig PoVey

Craig has dedicated over three decades to the field of behavioral health and substance use prevention. He began his career with 12 years at a community behavioral health center, followed by 20 years as the Director of Prevention Services at the Utah Division of Substance Use and Mental Health. Craig then joined JBS International as a Technical Expert, assisting communities in establishing effective SUD prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Craig works at Synergy Enterprises and is the Director of the “Talk They Hear You” national underage drinking prevention media campaign funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. â€‹

He holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah and is a certified Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist. Craig is also a certified instructor in several evidence-based prevention programs and a trained Community That Cares facilitator, with 20 years of experience in coaching community engagement techniques.

Mr. PoVey has contributed to numerous advisory boards, including the Community Youth Development Study and the Center for Prevention Implementation Methodologies. He has served as the National Prevention Network President, participated in the CADCA Coalition Advisory Committee, and was a guest member of the Society for Prevention Research Board of Directors, acting as a liaison between prevention practice and research.

In his free time, Craig enjoys mountain and road cycling, hiking, skiing, and exploring the scenic areas around St. George, Utah, with his wife.
